From our early beginnings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1915 to today, the Fraternal Order of Police has grown to become the largest and most commanding voice in law enforcement. With more than 2,200 local lodges and more than 356,000 members across the United States, we are committed to the belief that no one knows the danger and difficulties faced by law enforcement officers better than another law enforcement officer. The Fraternal Order of Police was founded and continues to operate as a representative organization. You have a voice and vote in all matters in your local lodges. You, the members, through your local lodges, direct the efforts of the FOP. You decide what programs and benefits are right for you. You elect your officers to represent you. We have full-time staff members, but there are no high-paid “executives.” No other police association offers so much for so little. Whether in labor, legislation, education or fraternalism, your voice, and the voices of your fellow members, is the voice of the Fraternal Order of Police. Please allow us to be your voice by joining.
Who can join?
Any sworn law enforcement officer with arrest power who is employed by a government entity may become a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. We also welcome corrections officers, telecommunicators, and retired law enforcement officers. See our membership form below or contact us with questions.
We also have an Auxiliary unit for families of members of the Fraternal Order of Police. The goal of the auxiliary is to unite families of members of the Fraternal Order of Police; to promote their welfare socially, morally and intellectually; by aiding in supporting beneficial legislation, providing programs that inform and educate, and to encourage them in all things pertaining to their good. It shall be our constant endeavor to create and maintain a feeling of harmony and interest in the undertakings of the Fraternal Order of Police
Additionally, we also offer Associate Memberships for community members and businesses who value law enforcement and wish to contribute to our law enforcement members. An Associate Member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) is a supporter of the FOP's purpose and object. Associate members are recommended by an active member and include friends and families of law enforcement officers, business people, and citizens. Associate members have no vote and do not receive benefits from the lodge. Associate members will receive a hard plastic Lodge 427 membership card and a vinyl FOP associate emblem.
