THE VOICE OF OUR NATION'S LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

The Fraternal Order of Police is the largest and oldest law enforcement labor organization in the United States. Since 1993, the FOP has maintained a National Legislative Office, now known as the Government and Media Affairs Center, on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., with a full-time professional staff that actively lobbies all components of the federal government—from Congress to federal departments to the White House—on public safety and policing issues.

Spoon River Valley FOP Honors Seven Life-Saving Heroes

During the 8/8/2026 Spoon River Valley FOP business meeting, President Donald Ike Hackett presented Life-Saving Awards to seven local law enforcement officers for their extraordinary courage during a major apartment fire on January 1st, 2026.
The seven deputies were recognized for their heroic actions at Bluebell Towers in Abingdon, IL. Facing heavy smoke on the second floor, the deputies rushed into the hazardous six-story building to evacuate residents. Working together under dangerous conditions, they successfully helped guide 53 residents—including children and individuals with physical disabilities—to safety, preventing a potential tragedy.
The FOP and the Knox County community extend their deepest gratitude to these deputies for running toward danger and exemplifying the very best of the law enforcement profession.
